  • What It Really Means to Love

If hate could heal the world, the world wouldn’t be this broken. Hate, like cancer, is eating into the earth like a vulture eats carcasses. Love, like healing rain, is the only web that unity, trust, understanding, faithfulness and truth can connect. The concept of love has not been over-emphasized: it has only been misconstrued.

Loving God (Deut 6:5) and loving your neighbour (Lev 19:18) were laws in the Torah that God instructed the people of Israel through Moses, so loving one another is an age-old concept. However, because there are different words for love in Greek, the “old” commandment sounded like this; Love God with the love of God (Greek: Agape) and love your neighbour with brotherly love (Greek: philia).

In John 21:15-17, Jesus asked Peter 3 times if he loves Him with the Love of God (agape). Peter responded that he loved Him as a brother (phileo). In other words, we are not fully loving if we do not love how Love loves. Love loves freely and fully. Love is not even fully manifested in brotherly love, which loves people of their kind only. It is only fully manifested in agape, the God-kind of Love. Love loves all the way through.

Jesus is saying He is giving us a new commandment. What makes this commandment new? Here it is; “As I have loved you”. A quick question anyone will ask is, “How do I love another with the Love of God?”. Jesus answered that perfectly; “As I have loved you”. Jesus is the epitome and embodiment of the Love of God. Romans 5:5 makes us understand that God continually pours His Love into our hearts. He wants you to love Him with this same Love, love yourself, and extend this same Love to others.

This love, of course, won’t make any sense to one who hasn’t encountered the Love of God. It won’t make sense to leave 99 sheep and go in search of one, except when you realize that that one lost sheep was you. It’s the kind of love that waits earnestly on the rooftop, eagerly hoping to see us return home. It’s the kind of love that sees our poor wretched souls from afar and meets us halfway, lavishing us with kisses even in our dirtiness.

This love is not the kind of Love that waits till you’re good enough. It’s the kind of Love that loves you good enough till everything sees it burning in your heart. This is a distinguishing Love: loving one another with the Love of God. God wants to love others through you too. “God loves you” is not enough to make the lost know he is worthy of love. Jesus wants this unconditional Love to be the distinguishing factor of His disciples. He said, “If you have a love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.”

    Love like Him ❤️

  • The Logic of God

    The Logic of God

“If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?”
    Matthew 6:30

Jesus used the phrase “little faith” 6 times in the Gospels. The Greek word is oligopistia, which has such an interesting meaning.
It actually means brief. “Oligos” is a Greek adverb that expresses a short duration, value or measure. If my fuel is “oligos”, it can’t take me a whole journey. It is the opposite of “tosoutos pistin”, often translated as great faith. So whenever Jesus said his disciples had little faith, He wasn’t just referring to the “quantity” of their faith. He was saying that their faith was brief.

Many have stopped believing in God because to them they have tried but it didn’t work. Faith is not trying to see if it will work. Faith is seeing that it is working out. God never said we should say it once and then magic happens. In fact, Jesus said the opposite if you read your Bible more carefully. Faith is a persevering spirit. “And will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones, who cry to Him day and night? Will He keep putting them off?”. Luke 18:7

How do we have faith? The Bible says, “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God”. The word “by” means a channel of an act. This means it is by hearing the Word of God that we have faith and build faith. Having faith is as a result of the seed of God’s Word planted into our hearts. Faith (Greek: pistis) means “persuasion” in direct translation. This means God speaks words that persuades (convicts not convinces) us to take action.

Why? Whenever we make a decision consciously or subconsciously, we base it on something. But God persuades us to base it on His Logic not on our sight (literally means perspective). The “Word” in Greek means Logos, which is where we get the word “logic” from. In the beginning was the Logos(logic), and the Logos(logic) was with God, and the Logos(logic) was God. This revelation is mind-changing; God’s Word is His Logic.

God’s Logic or Word does not always make sense, not because it’s illogical, but because it is beyond the kind of logic we are accustomed to.

One of the most famous Scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11, ” I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
God through Jeremiah said this to the people who had been in exile for 20 years. They went on to live in exile for the next 30 years.

God will never forsake you. He will never abandon you. He needs you to continue believing. God wants to hold on to His Word, His Logic, His Rhema in the midst of it all. He wants you to build your life on a solid foundation. That is why faith is essential and fundamental in the Kingdom lifestyle. I want you to now face life with Great FAITH.

    I love you ❤

  • Why Did God Put The Tree In the Garden?

Why Did God Put The Tree In the Garden?

God creates man in his image and likeness. Man has no sin in him and no knowledge of sin and doesn’t even know how to sin. Then God creates two special trees; the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. He puts them right where they cannot be unseen.

Then, He tells man to eat from any other tree but the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Really? It’s like telling a kid not to switch on the TV. It only sparks more curiosity. Did God actually expect Adam not to eat from the tree?

God is always revealing a side of Him we have never known. He’s the same yesterday, today and forever but to our limited capacities, today we understand Him as El-Shaddai, tomorrow He reveals Himself as El-Elyon. Our capacities are very limited in comparison to an infinite God.

So God created Adam with the ability to grow and be more like God. Adam wasn’t fully like God. He had to grow everyday to be more like Him. How do I know this? Because even as completely new creatures in Christ, we still need to grow. To understand this more, check out my blog post on the Revelation of Mystery.

So just as you’re born with a sex drive but you have to mature to a certain stage before you can “taste the fruit”, God put the tree there as a remembrance of further things to come and as a motivation to mature.

Trust me, there are things that already belong to you that God gives you but still asks you to wait for the kairos moment. Just like kids gotta wait till Christmas Day to open their presents. You can open it 2 days before Christmas. It satisfies the curiosity but takes the fun out of the whole idea.

Adam was like God. God has all knowledge of good and evil. (After all, He’s the judge of the universe. How will he judge evil if He had no knowledge of it?) But Adam wasn’t like God yet in that sense; he didn’t have “the [experiential] knowledge (recognition) of [the difference between] good and evil” yet.

How do I know this? Because after eating the fruit, God Himself admits that Adam now has the knowledge of good and evil. The Lord God said, “Since the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil….” in Genesis‬ ‭3:22‬.

The sin Adam and Eve committed had little to do with the fruit. The actual sin was choosing the word of the devil over the Word of God. It was believing and obeying the devil. The sin was disobeying God. Alhough they had become enlightened, they became naked and ashamed and vulnerable. They hid from God, why not the devil? That’s what sin did and does to us all the time, no matter the kind of sin.

God does not and cannot be tempted. God wasn’t tempting man. If this was so, Adam and Eve would have eaten the fruit long before the serpent (the enemy) came along. Adam and Eve had everything they needed. What did the enemy do? He tried to draw their minds to the only thing they couldn’t have at the moment.

Are you being motivated to pursue the things of God while being patient with His perfect timing, or you’re focusing on what don’t have and desire to have it contemptuously?

    I love you ❤️

  • 7 Unusual Lessons from the Christmas Story

We have heard the Christmas story over and over. This time round, I read between the lines to cherry-pick for you applicable everyday wisdom. Hope you enjoy it!

When King Herod heard about this, he was worried, and so was everyone else in Jerusalem.

    Matthew 2:3 CEV

LESSON 1: Sometimes someone’s good news is bad news to us because we don’t clearly recognise the benefit it is to us.

Instead of seeing a blessing of a brethen, we rather see an uncalled-for competition. This is why Cain killed Abel. This is why Esau hated Jacob. See, when you see that God has blessed your neighbour today, it shouldn’t call for jealousy. It’s a sign that your open door season is coming soon. It’s a time to celebrate the victory with your neighbour because you even indirectly benefit from that blessing.

When the men went into the house and saw the child with Mary, his mother, they knelt down and worshiped him. They took out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh and gave them to him.

    Matthew 2:11 CEV

LESSON 2: Have an attitude of gratitude.

The full benefit of a blessing goes to people who receive it with complete thanksgiving. These wise men presented their best gifts. As was fitting, you can’t go into the presence of a King without giving gifts. Not that the King requires it but you in your own wisdom know that it is befitting for a King. I’ve revealed to you why we are trained to thank God first when we enter His presence. Psalm 100:4 says so.

LESSON 3: People from afar are far more likely to see your star than the people close to you.

Coming from afar, the Christmas looks magical. Yet those close see animal poop, an untidy place and smell something pungent. See, when you’re too close you are more likely to see mistakes. Take a step back and appreciate the people in your life. Take a step back and even appreciate the person you have become.

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

    Luke 2:19 NIV

LESSON 4: Your heart is a treasure storage

It takes some time for a thought in your conscious mind to sink into your subconscious mind. It would need to be repeated frequently, involve as many senses as possible and be re-imagined in several dimensions. In other words, the only things stored in your heart are things you treasure. Once you treasure something, you pay too much attention to it. So when God examines our hearts, He clearly sees what we treasure.

    LESSON 5: Selah

Selah is written across the Psalms. It means to meditate, to ponder, to treasure in your heart. It is the process between head knowledge and the kind of knowledge that changes your life forever. Have you met someone so full of God’s Word? It is because they make time to Selah. The Word of God cannot simply come to life to you if you spend some few minutes every once in a while in the Word. You will need to Selah before the Word can resonate with you.

The angel said, “Get up and take the child and his mother back to Israel. The people who wanted to kill him are now dead.”

    Matthew 2:20 CEV

LESSON 6: “Get Up – because you can – for I have done what you can’t”

By now, you know there are certain things God will never do for you. Sometimes instead of God preventing the calamity, He will rather prompt you to pray to Him for Him to prevent the calamity. God is God, and He will always do what man cannot do. So don’t expect Him to do what man can do. If He does what men do, men will always take the credit. So He does the impossible because only He can. He begins where man’s ability end.

All who heard the shepherds’ story were astonished,

    Luke 2:18 NLT

LESSON 7: Your story sounds “normal” till you tell it to someone else

People will see you differently once they get to hear your story. Their senses widen, their respect enlarges and their idea of you broadens. A story leaves a longlasting impression than anything we’ll ever hear or listen to. Your “work in progress” story can change someone’s life forever.

After all, what is Christmas? It’s a story of the birth of a Saviour. It’s a story of the Son of God becoming the Son of Man so that the sons of mens can become sons of God. It is the story of Emmanuel, God living among mere mortals with human feelings, emotions, thoughts and instincts.

  • What the Bible says about Women: Understanding Biblical Context

What the Bible says about Women: Understanding Biblical Context

The entire Bible was directly written to three people groups; Jews (Israelites), Greeks and Romans. In order to understand the context, it’s important that we first know their culture concerning women.

    Phariseeism

    From Malachi to Matthew was 400 years. Within these 400 years, the religion called Judaism emerged. Judaism is not the working out of the Old Testament. Have you noticed that there are no Pharisees and scribes in the Old Testament? They were the ones who developed this religion within the 400-year period. Just like Buddhism, Confucianism, and even Christianity, the religion was created in the name of a person who wasn’t looking forward to creating a religion, this time in the person of Moses. There were 252 laws in the Old Testament (Law of Moses) but by the time Jesus was born, these guys had made it 613, including 100 laws against women. It includes the following;

    Jewish Culture

In the Jewish setting at the time of Paul, women were the legal property of the men they married. They were considered candid slaves without a voice. They were allowed little or no formal education. Boys were sent to learn their dad’s profession while the girls stayed home with their mothers. Women were forbidden to speak to men in public and were required to veil their faces when in public. Jesus broke this law with the Samaritan woman He spoke with.

Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?”

    John 4:27 NIV

If she was caught unveiled, the man is required by law to file for divorce. A woman wasn’t allowed to eat at the same table as a man unless he was her husband. If the husband invited a guest, she was required to eat in a separate room. Marriage was betrothal; she was chosen to be married not the other way around, and there was little she could do about that.

    Whenever the writers of the Gospel wrote that Mary Magdalene was following Jesus, they were actually drawing the readers’ attention to the inclusive ministry of Christ. Women never followed the Pharisee’s congregation. They were not allowed by Judaic law to do so or even be part of the scribes. Religion was a men’s club. Jesus is indeed the friend of the anomalies;

In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.

    Mark 15:41 NIV

Polygamy was allowed for men so women usually shared their husbands with other women. Women weren’t allowed to vote. She even couldn’t be a witness in a court case because the scribes and Pharisees believed women were inherently liars. They weren’t allowed to read the Torah or even be taught the Torah (law of Moses). Jesus broke this law when He taught Mary.

…Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.

    Luke 10:39b NIV

They basically weren’t supposed to do or be anywhere that involved more than one man. Thank God we’ve drastically grown past that as a generation. It will be therefore absurd on our side to go back to these things in the name of doctrine just because it’s written in the Bible. Ask yourself first, what’s the context of the content?

As already stated, the Bible was written to 3 people groups; Greeks, Romans and Jews, especially the epistles. I’ve already discussed the Jewish culture, and now I want to continue with that of the Greeks and Romans, so we understand why Paul said the things he said.

    Roman Culture

The books that were written to the Romans have no correction for women. No instructions were given by Paul to the Romans to restrict women from teaching or exercising authority. Why? In Roman culture, no one cared who was a woman and who wasn’t. Roman women could buy and sell properties.

Unlike Jewish women who couldn’t own anything; anything they “owned” belonged to the man. Legally, Roman women were the property of men but in a much more open way. Roman women could have businesses and make money for themselves and own jobs. So for Romans, there were no gender barriers and women weren’t trying to compete with men, unlike extreme feminism today.

Roman women also had the power to vote. Women weren’t an outcast in Roman settings, the poor were. No one cared if you were a woman or not; no stigma whatsoever against women in general.

    Greek Culture

    Acts 19:28 NKJV

The Greeks made gods out of women and placed women above men. You’d notice that the epistles where Paul gave instructions for correcting or restricting women were those written to the Greeks. For example, Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 11 that the man is the head of the woman (vs 3), women were created for men (vs 9) and women should cover their hair before praying (vs 13, 6). Why? Corinth was a Greek city with a Greek goddess as the main god of the city.

Paul writes in 1 Timothy 2 that women shouldn’t wear braids or expensive clothes (vs 9), not teach or exercise any authority over a man (vs 12) and must be silent. Why? Timothy was in Ephesus, a Greek city with a multi-breasted female goddess as the god of the city, the goddess of fertility, Artemis aka Diana. That also explains why Paul said women will be saved through childbirth (vs 15). He wasn’t referring to salvation.

The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: “Fellow Ephesians, doesn’t all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven?”

    Acts 19:35 NIV

It was the culture of Greek women to travel to Ephesus during pregnancy so that the goddess would save them from death during pregnancy. Greek women were afraid to become Christians and leave Diana’s covering, thus Paul said if a woman walks uprightly and loves God, they will be saved throughout the childbirth process (vs 15).

    In Greek mythology, women are more powerful than men. Their reasons/beliefs were; a woman was created before a man otherwise how could the second human being have been born? Their second reason/belief was that, because a man’s sex drive is typically higher than a woman’s, a woman always has something that a man wants but a man doesn’t always have something that a woman wants. Thus, Greeks usually put women in charge of everything because they believed that they were created first. That’s why Paul wrote this order to them;

But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
    1 Corinthians 11:3 NIV

Now that you have a summarised view of how the Bible setting looked like, take your Bible and search for all the verses that “undermine” women and see how enlightening it becomes. Especially, in the gospels, one would beautifully see how Jesus broke all the rules concerning women, one by one. Also, you can do further studies on the various cultures in various settings to further enrich your experience and understanding.

  • What is God’s Gender? What If I Told You that God is a Woman?

What is God’s Gender? What If I Told You that God is a Woman?

“So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
    Genesis 1:27 NKJV

In the above text, we get to understand that when God created man in His image, He created him both male and female. That tells us that it takes masculine and feminine qualities to understand the nature of God. God is neither male nor female. We use “He, Him, Himself” for convenience’s sake because there are no pronouns for a neutral gender in any language. God is as genderless as a table.

Much of the gender issues stem from the fact that we think the Trinity is predominantly men. God relates to us the way we want Him to relate to us. If you see God as your Teacher, He will be a Teacher to you. If you see Him as a Father, He will be a Father to you. Perhaps, seeing God as your Mother is going to forever change your perspective and give you an in-depth revelation of what God’s unrelenting Love actually means. If seeing God as a woman sounds blasphemous to you, then that says a lot about you.

Have you noticed how almost every religion and culture is finding a way to downgrade women to being second-class citizens, an inferior gender or secondary to men? In fact, many women have been trained to “inferioriate” themselves to a man in the name of religion and culture. Have you ever wondered why? Are we afraid to see the repercussions when a woman finally understands who she is and takes her rightful place by a man? This is going to be one heck of a ride.

Let us understand the context of Luke 15. The Pharisees accused Jesus of welcoming and eating with tax collectors and other outcasts. Women were included in the “outcast category”. How do I know that? It is written in the Talmud, a Holy Book written by renowned Pharisees and used in conjunction with the Torah (the Law of Moses). In the Talmud, it is against the Law for a Rabbi to teach women. It is also against the Law to speak with women in public. In fact, a renowned 1st-century Rabbi called Elzar wrote, “I’d rather burn the Torah than teach it to a woman”. His comments depict the religious communities of that day.

In the Old Testament, women were relegated to the outer court of the Tabernacle of Moses. There were four sections; Most Holy Place, Holy Place, Inner Court and Outer Court. Women were in the last together with other outcasts; lepers, foreigners, and anomalies. But we know that Jesus had women following Him everywhere He went.

Now that I’ve established the fact that the outcasts included women, let’s go to the 3 parables. Jesus told the Pharisees 3 parables, all having the same meaning; the Parable of the lost sheep, lost coin and lost son. In keeping context in mind (Luke 15:1-3); the shepherd was referring to God, the 99 sheep was the Pharisees and the lost sheep was the outcast, the sinners Jesus was welcoming. In the third parable, (famously known as the Parable of the Prodigal Son) the Father is God, the older brother is the Pharisees (who are jealous that His Father threw a party for the prodigal son), and the prodigal son is the outcasts.

But with the parable in the middle, Jesus said something amazing.

“Or suppose a woman who has ten silver coins loses one of them — what does she do? She lights a lamp, sweeps her house, and looks carefully everywhere until she finds it. When she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbours together, and says to them, ‘I am so happy I found the coin I lost. Let us celebrate!’Luke 15:8‭-‬9 GNB

    We may not really get it, but the hearers totally understood what Jesus was saying. Who was the coin that wasn’t lost? (righteous people who didn’t need repentance) The Pharisees. Who was the lost coin? The outcasts. Who was the woman? God. Jesus used a woman as a metaphor for God. Jesus was saying God is not only like a man. God is like a woman who cannot watch her own children perish but is willing to sacrifice her own life to save them all. Let me end with this verse;

“Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you!
    Isaiah 49:15 NLT

  • Submission & Feminism

    Submission & Feminism

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
    Ephesians 5:21‭-‬22 NIV

It is outrightly said in many cultures including ours, that the man is the head. As to whether the woman is the tail or the neck by default, it undoubtedly relies on our understanding of “headship”. The word “head” is used 75 times in the New Testament, but never in the sense of overpowering domination. It similarly means Origin or Source. All Paul was saying in 1 Cor 11:3 is that the origin of the woman (not women) is the man. “If you Greeks think the woman is superior to the man because she was created first, you got the “created first” part even wrong.”

Marriage is not ownership. It is a partnership. If the woman cannot sometimes lead for the man to support, then there’s no mutual submission. When God created a woman as a helpmate to man, He wasn’t creating a slave, subordinate, “lesser vessel”, or someone inferior to the man. The word “helpmate” is used 16 times in the Bible, 3 referring to woman and 13 referring to God. So wherein lies that proposition?

In such a Greek culture where women were generally idolized, it was important that Paul stresses on the importance of the woman submitting to the man. In our culture where our “foremothers” simply endured emotional, physical and mental abuse in marriage in the name of “submission” – which is just a nicer word for sublime slavery – and sacrificed for the man to the detriment of their goals; dreams; aspirations; basically their life, I don’t think “women, submit to your husbands” should be the emphasis.

It’s a shock that “wives, submit to your husbands” is such a famous verse and barely anybody took their time to notice the previous verse. “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” It is important to realise that a win-win situation is possible. If women empowerment is to the detriment of men rights, we’re tearing each other down instead of building each other up. It is also important for men to realise that feminism is not a threat to their authority. Fighting for women and fighting against men are two totally different things. It’s about time matriarchs were placed beside patriarchs.

  • How Faith Works

    How Faith Works

“And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, “Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”
    Luke 17:5-6

    Mulberry Tree
Notice in the verse above that Jesus didn’t say ask God to uproot the mulberry tree. Sometimes out of desperation, we pray to God to take “Goliath” away. But Jesus told us to speak to the mountain and to the tree, the obstacle. Speak! That is the believer’s authority. In the above verse, notice that the verbs (pulled up, planted) are in the past tense. It is called the passive imperative tense. It means speaking about something that will happen like it has already happened. Faith is not believing in what God will do. It is believing in what He has already done. So when you speak, speak as if it is done. Notice that it is also a command and not a request. “Be pulled up!” not “please go”. Command that sickness to leave. Command that burden to fall off. Command that yoke to be destroyed. Command that curse to be uprooted. Command it in Jesus’ name.“Do I have to say it once and fight my mind from doubting?”. Jesus said, “if you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say…”
The phrase “you can say” is the Greek word “lego” which is in the imperfect active imperative tense. This means it is a repeated action. It means as long as you don’t give up, it will come to pass. When God sends His Word, it doesn’t return to Him void. When you send His Word, it won’t return to you void. When you stop believing, it is like cancelling the Word you sent. Because Faith is the driving force of the Word. The Word is a Word of Faith. So I want you now you keep believing. And keep speaking. Speak words into the atmosphere. Speak words into the universe. And as long as you hold on to Faith, the Word will not return to you void.I love you ❤

  • Did Jesus Go To Hell After Dying?

Did Jesus Go To Hell After Dying?

Jesus’ death on the Cross is the greatest revelation of the nature of God there is and will ever be. His finished work done once and for all transcends space and eternity. But when He died 2000 years ago at Calvary, since He was carrying the sins of the world, did He actually go to hell?

Jesus’ atonement meant He not only became the embodiment of sin, but the recipient of the wages of sin as well. He wasn’t just a sin-carrier going to dump all the sins in the world somewhere else. No! He was the epitome of sin, thus putting sin to death by His Death and putting death to “death” by His Resurrection. …after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

    2 CORINTHIANS 5:21

Jesus endured physical death and while serving His “sentence” in hell, He preached the Gospel. I had always wondered what the fate of those born before the era of Jesus would be. On what basis where they going to be judged by God? But God in His infinite wisdom did not abandon them to their fate. Romans 3:25 tells us that,

For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,

    ROMANS 3:25

Jesus announced emphatically the victory secured by God’s Love for humanity throughout all ages to these earlier generations.

He went and proclaimed God’s salvation to earlier generations who ended up in the prison of judgment because they wouldn’t listen.

    1 PETER 3:19 MSG

On the third day, when Christ had completed His mission in Shoel, the Spirit of the Living God quickened His mortal body and He rose from the grave, thus conquering death, hell and the grave.

But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life, for death could not keep him in its grip.

    ACTS 2:24

The Bible is not vague when it comes to the things beneath the earth. In fact, Scripture uses six distinct words to describe different realms of the dead and imprisoned spirits. Let’s carefully walk through these biblical concepts, one by one, each with its own character, purpose, and destiny.

    1. SHOËL / HADES – The Grave of the Dead

“For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.”
    – Psalm 16:10

Shoël is the Hebrew word in the Old Testament, translated as Hades in the Greek New Testament. It is the grave, the place of the dead. Before the resurrection of Jesus Christ, both the righteous and the wicked were held here. Death was then the most powerful force, and it swallowed up all, whether good or evil. Shoël was not just one vast space; it had two distinct compartments: one for the righteous and one for the wicked. It was essentially a waiting place until redemption was made through the blood of Jesus. The Bible says that yes, Jesus went here. Psalm 16:10 is a prophetic verse about Christ’s resurrection, a beautiful promise that death would not have the final say.

    2. PARADISE / ABRAHAM’S BOSOM – The Rest of the Righteous

“Now the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom; and the rich man also died and was buried.” – Luke 16:22

Within Shoël, the compartment for the righteous was known as Paradise, also called Abraham’s Bosom. It was a place of comfort, peace, and rest for those who died in faith. In the parable of the rich man and Lazarus, Jesus reveals that while Lazarus was in Abraham’s Bosom, the rich man found himself in torment. Both were in the same realm, but separated by a great chasm. Though these two places were close or far enough for a conversation, none could cross from one to the other. After the resurrection, Jesus emptied this place, taking the righteous to heaven (Ephesians 4:8-10).

    3. ABADDON / THE PIT – The Place of Destruction

“I will bring you down to the pit, to the people of old, and I will make you dwell in the lowest parts of the earth.” – Ezekiel 26:20

Abaddon, or the Pit, was the compartment in Shoël reserved for the wicked dead. It is a place of darkness, regret, and torment. While awaiting final judgment, the souls of those who died without righteousness were held here. The Bible uses the word Abaddon to speak of ruin, destruction, and hopelessness. The wicked had no peace here – it was a place of awaiting fearful judgment.

    4. THE ABYSS – The Abode for Demons

“And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.” – Luke 8:31

The Abyss, also known as the bottomless pit, is distinct from Shoël. It is not for human spirits but for demons. When Jesus confronted the legion of demons in the Gadarene man (Mark 5:9-10), they begged Him not to send them back to the Abyss. Demons are occasionally permitted to move in and out of this realm, influencing or possessing human bodies, but it remains their prison. Revelation 20:1-3 describes how Satan himself will be temporarily bound here before the final judgment.

    5. TARTARUS – The Prison for Demons

“For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them in chains of darkness to be held for judgment…” – 2 Peter 2:4

Tartarus is a special section of the Abyss but for the angels who fell in the rebellion of Genesis 6. These beings crossed boundaries God had established, committing abominations on earth. God bound them in chains of deepest darkness, keeping them there until the great judgment. Jude 1:6 calls it “everlasting chains under darkness”. Unlike other spirits, these angels do not roam freely but are held securely, awaiting the decreed time. It is a place where any demon who crosses their boundary is sent. At another time, I will go into detail about how demons secure legality first in their diabolical escapades to prevent them from being locked up here.

    6. THE LAKE OF FIRE – The Second Death

“Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
    – Revelation 20:14

The final and most terrifying destination is the Lake of Fire. This is not yet populated. It awaits its eternal occupants after the Final Judgment. Both human souls who rejected God and rebellious spirits will be cast into it. Even Death and Hades themselves will be thrown in. This is called the Second Death. The Lake of Fire is eternal, irreversible, and reserved for all unrighteousness, whether human spirit or demonic spirit. Unlike Shoël (Abaddon, Paradise)  and the Abyss (or Tartarus) – which are part of the first death – this is the second death.

Did Jesus go to hell after dying?
Yes! After Jesus died, He descended into Sheol (Hades), not to suffer, but to claim victory. The Bible says in Ephesians 4:8-10 that “when He ascended on high, He led captivity captive.” This means Jesus went into the waiting place of the dead, where the righteous awaited redemption, and liberated them, triumphing over death and the grave. Yes, even the faithful were held until the price of sin was fully paid and they too (Abraham, Moses, David etc) go to Heaven on account of believing in Jesus, who is God. Just as Hebrews 2:14 says, it is only by dying did He break the power of the devil who had the power of death. In Revelations 1:18, He proclaimed that He now had the keys of death. By rising from the dead, He became “the firstborn from the dead” (Colossians 1:18), the first to conquer death in its entirety, making a way for all who believe in Him to follow. By resurrection, we also conquer death. Hallelujah!

    I love you ❤

  • El-Dosted: The God that Maketh Rich

So last week, we started a profound conversation about what actually makes one wealthy. Initially, I didn’t want to conclude anything, especially on the three sides I chose; God, Hard Work or Wisdom. From the comments I got, I realized how everyone agreed that it’s pretty much complicated.

After careful contemplation, I came to the conclusion that the 21st-century person is more unlikely to believe in God for wealth. Perhaps, the lifestyle of the Christian pertaining to riches has been such a poor example to the simpleton that people would rather believe in anything else other than God to make them rich.

In fact, the average Christian believes in God but not in the money aspect. That part is none other than theory to all of us, I guess. Practically, we shout amen to all the declarations and go back to our poor miserable lives the next day. So why don’t we talk about that? Does wealth have anything to do with God at all?

I’m case you missed it, click on the thumbnail below to catch up on what we are talking about. Then, you can jump back in again.

    The Provision of God

For he makes his sun to shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain to those who do good and to those who do evil.

    Matthew 5:45

Christians think they are so special. Just like any other religious group, they think their God will only be kind to them and be rude to everyone else. God is not like that. Even though the sins of the wicked will not go unpunished, He is still gracious to everybody. We are all God’s creation. We are God’s handiwork.

Remember that it is the LORD your God who gives you the power to become rich.

    Deuteronomy 8:18

We are made in His image. When it comes to ability, potential, purpose, and provision, He gives each and everyone that. Whether you believe it or not. Whether you know Him or not. Whether you are a Christian or not. That provision of God is still made available to you. This provision includes the potential to be prosperous and the ability to make wealth. God shows favour, not favouritism.

    The Propensity of God

The LORD makes some poor and others rich; he brings some down and lifts others up.

    1 Samuel 2:7

Oh yeah….one thing about God; He does what He likes. He can make you poor. Always remember this; prosperity is for a purpose. Forget about the person not being a Christian. God has the Propensity to make someone rich and lay it on the person’s heart to solve a world problem. When God gives you wealth and you think it’s for only you but it was up to only you to become rich, God can take it away.

Why is this important to know? People think this makes God look schizophrenic, doing both good and bad and playing God and the devil sometimes. This is not so. If God didn’t have the power to destroy, cause afflictions, send poverty etc. He will have to rely on the devil to punish wrongdoers, thus making Him the devil’s accomplice. Every Judge has the power to save and destroy. If God can make you rich, He can make you poor. If He can exalt you, He can humble you as well.

But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night you will have to give up your life; then who will get all these things you have kept for yourself?’ ”

    Luke 12:20

This is a really hard truth that many people don’t want to hear. The same God who can save can destroy. If He can make you whole, He can also make you empty. If He can make you rich, He can also make you poor. This is not a dualistic universe where God can only heal and the devil can only destroy. God can do all things. God can heal and also destroy. That is why Jesus said do not fear the one who can destroy the body. Fear the one who can destroy both the body and soul.

    The Exceeding Riches of God

And he went on to say to them all, “Watch out and guard yourselves from every kind of greed; because a person’s true life is not made up of the things he owns, no matter how rich he may be.”

    Luke 12:15

The Exceeding Riches of God is not even about having a fat salary. It’s not about money. It’s not even about material wealth. Do you know that, even in the financial world, a wealthy man is not one who has a lot of money? It is the one who has the ability to create wealth. This is why people who win the lottery never sustain their wealth. They go back to being broke. If you took all the money in the world and shared it equally, eventually those who were rich will become rich again.

This is why you shouldn’t be jealous of the facade of worldly riches. Worldly riches don’t last. It is not sustainable. The Exceeding Riches of God is from generation to generation. Can you become rich outside of God’s principles and outlines? Of course. You can go for blood rituals. You can join a rich occult group. You can engage in Internet fraud. You can create/ modify deadly diseases in the lab. You can even sell your soul. Guess what? That wealth won’t last.

God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please him. But if a sinner becomes wealthy, God takes the wealth away and gives it to those who please him.

    Ecclesiastes 2:26 NLT

In the end, it is God who blesses. There are those who made wealth and cannot even enjoy it. Down the line, that wealth ended in the hands of the one God wanted to give it to. The Exceeding Riches of God is a kind of wealth that nourishes you multi-dimensionally. There is a kind of wealth that people get at the expense of their family and relationships. Others, at the expense of their health and vitality. No need to be envious of such wealth. It is God who blesses, and He adds no sorrow to it.

Good people will have wealth to leave to their grandchildren, but the wealth of sinners will go to the righteous.

    Proverbs 13:22

You don’t need to live a lifetime to discover this. If you want the kind of wealth that is not tied to something outside of you; the kind of wealth that is multi-dimensional; the kind of wealth that you get to enjoy; the kind of wealth that you get to pass to your children and grandchildren; the kind of wealth that is tied to God’s purpose; then look to no one else other than El-Dosted. His streets are made of pure gold. Gold and silver are His. His rewards exceed all riches, for His Exceeding Riches are incomprehensible.

    Shout-out to El-Dosted!

  • If Adam’s Sin Made Us All Sinners, Why Doesn’t Jesus’ Sacrifice Make Us All Saints?

If Adam’s Sin Made Us All Sinners, Why Doesn’t Jesus’ Sacrifice Make Us All Saints?

Christian Universalism argues that if Adam’s sin made everyone a sinner, Jesus’ sacrifice has made everyone a saint. Simple logic! It sounds about right. After all, Romans 5:19 says “because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.”

Adam’s sin brought sin into everyone’s heart even from birth. We had no choice but to sin. Sin was natural to us. Jesus’ finished work brought freedom from sin, breaking its yoke. But I still have a choice to enslave myself to sin if I want to.

“But but…Adam’s sin made us sinners without a choice?” Wrong! Adam’s sin made us sinners with only one choice; to be a slave to sin. The choice to live free from sin was far beyond our reach. Jesus’ finished work gave us another choice; to be a slave to righteousness. Because we had initially made the choice of being slaves to sin, not making the choice of being a slave to righteousness still makes us sinners.

This means that one becomes a saint by choice, and not by chance. That’s where Christian Universalism flawed. I should have a choice. What if I don’t want to be a slave of righteousness? This is about eternity; probably the biggest decision that needs my consent the most. “But but…if God wants to save all of us so badly, why doesn’t he make it an automatic process?” Where there is love, there’s choice. Where there’s no choice, there’s no love.

What if someone doesn’t want to spend eternity with God? After all, if I can live my life here on earth without God, why should I be forced to spend eternity with Him? So people are not going into eternal damnation because of Adam’s sin, but because of their own choice.

God has forgiven us all our sins – past, present, future – and has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ whether you agree or not. But guess what? You have a choice; to accept or not to accept. The choice is universal. And no one is choosing for you, not even God. In fact, we will need to make this choice everyday, not just in this age but throughout eternity.

The choice is not a riddle too. For God will continually show what we must choose. He loves you ❤️

  • Is the Bible the Word of God?

The average Christian believes that the Bible is the Word of God. If asked why, there will be no reason given other than “it is what it is”. When tough mind-boggling questions are then asked, seeds of doubts will eventually be sown in your mind concerning the infallibility of the Bible. Thus, the need to know what makes the Bible the Word of God.

When reasons why it is NOT the Word of God is presented to you, you may begin to water the seeds of doubt in your mind. Just as the cornerstone became a stumbling block for many, the Bible has started wars and brought peace. It has been used as a reference to perpetuate evil, preached as a message of hope, quoted as the basis of fierce debates and misquoted in the quest for propaganda.

The Bible started off as a library of books than as just one book. We know the Bible has 66 books, but some of these books are also collection of books in itself. In 1229, chapters and verses were added for easy quotation. Written by about 40 authors within a 1500-year period, the coherence of the book is humanly impossible. However, the ultimate question remains; is the Bible the Word of God?

    The Word vs the Spirit

When the Spirit of God leaves a body of believers, what is left is just an organisation. They have a form of godliness, but lack the power thereof. One thing you’d realize is how the Holy Scriptures all of a sudden replaces the Holy Spirit as a member of the Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Bible. Whatever you say or do, such people ask, “was it done in Bible times?”. Such people believe that everything is in the Bible and that the Bible has an answer for everything. They are quick to label unbiblical things as secular or outrightly demonic.

Not everything is in the Bible. The Bible does not also provide an answer to everything. It is the work of the Holy Spirit, not necessarily the Bible. He is the One to lead us into ALL truths. Such mindsets are what make us slowly replace the Holy Spirit with the Holy Scriptures. Yes, the Bible has a say on a lot of issues of life and they tell us the mind of God but if you need someone to teach you, go to the Spirit and He will lead you the Word. The Word of the Spirit is the Spirit of the Word. The Bible can be misinterpreted in a billion ways. Go to its Author. Simple!

    Proceedings vs Preceedings

There are two words for “Word” in Greek. Logus, which is the Logic of God, the Mind of God, used in John 1:1, Jesus. Another is Rhema, a specific Word for a specific person/people, at a specific time for a specific purpose. It’s not that God’s Rhema has an expiry date, but when God speaks, it is established, fulfilled and returns to Him “unvoided”. To one He says “go”, to another He says “stay”, to all He says “love”. If you’re not abreast with God, you’ll pick His “go” Word in a season you had to “stay”.

What God said tells us how God thinks but what God is saying shows us what God is thinking. This is so important that I can’t stress it enough. Why? Because sometimes what God is saying now may be the exact opposite of what He said then. Imagine if Abraham wasn’t always checking for God’s updates. Isaac would have been dead had Abraham still held on to God’s initial words of sacrificing Isaac to him. Centuries later, the same God gave the Israelites a command not to sacrifice their children on any altar, the exact opposite of what He told Abraham to do.

Jesus said man shall live by the Words that proceeds of the mouth of God. Not preceed. God speaks, His Word is accomplished and returns to Him. If you’re not current with God, you will be pouring your energy to establish a Word that has already been fulfilled. This lack of understanding is responsible for half of the Christian denominations today. They read something God said 8000 years ago and has been fulfilled and then make a doctrine out of it.

You read the books of Moses and declare that believers have to sacrifice cows because God says so? Honey, where have you been? Jesus already fulfilled that. “But it’s God who commanded it?” Yes please. That preceeds what He is saying today. Today, He is saying that if you simply believe in Jesus’ sacrifice, your sins will be atoned for once and for all.

    The Word vs the Bible

All truths are not the same. Some are more essential than others. Isaiah 28:10 says, “For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept, Line upon line, line upon line, Here a little, there a little.” So it is important what we emphasize. Obedience is more important than sacrifice; loving one another is more important than speaking the language of angels. The Truth is as important as the Order of Truth. To understand this more, read on the Mystery of Revelation.

That’s why it’s wrong to overemphasize the Bible more than the Author. Paul himself said that the letter killeth. We read the Bible to encounter the Word. The Bible is a book but the Word is a person. The Bible is the Word of God but the Word of God is not the Bible. The Word of God is God Himself. The truth is, you can read the Bible and miss the Word. This is very dangerous, but many have walked this road of perversion.

Now that you’ve carefully read all this, I would like you to re-read it from time to time and use to check some things in your own life. Am I holding on a “preceeding” Word or “proceeding” Word? The Bible is the Word of God alright but have I made the Book more supreme than the Author? Remember, “the letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life”.

It is the Spirit of God that makes the Bible the Word of God. He makes it comes alive. Without Him, the Bible is a book. With Him, you encounter the Word.
