  • Being Your True Self & Relating Well with Others

Being Your True Self & Relating Well with Others

We all make mistakes. The beauty of being human is in our flaws and frailty revealing the handiwork and masterpiece of our Creator. It is better to make mistakes than to fake perfection. Faking perfection means living for their acceptance. If we live for their acceptance, we’ll die from their rejection. So just be you, and allow others to be their higher self by living your higher self.

Defining how others should cope with you should be a boundary of authenticity rather than a limitation of freedom. Don’t live to please anyone. On the other hand, don’t live to intentionally displease someone. Both are in different directions but still emanates an inauthentic lifestyle lived in reaction to someone else.

Sometimes people try to expose what’s wrong with you, because they can’t appreciate what’s right about you.

Truth is, we can never like everything about someone. There will always be something that someone does or how the person lives life that we would dislike. If we can’t think of anything of that sort concerning someone in particular, then it means we have overlooked their flaws and not that they have no flaws.

Funny enough, we don’t even like everything about our ownselves. We can sometimes meet someone and not like how they live their life, and we don’t even know them lmao. Bottom line: you cannot correct every opinion people have about you. Free yourself from the need to do so. Everyone has the right to think whatever they want about anything. Don’t waste your energy.

If someone isn’t what others want them to be, the others become angry. Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should live their lives, but none about his or her own.

We can’t be going round telling everyone about the things they do that we don’t like and what we don’t like about them. On the other hand, we shouldn’t be Mr Nice or Mrs Nice who is always okay with everything and allows everyone to tread over them. It’s a world of balance, not of perfection. Confront and correct the things something can be done about and accept the things you can’t change.

There is a difference between a personality and an attitude. Laziness is not a personality trait; it’s an attitude. Being lazy cannot therefore be someone’s personality, and most importantly, something can be done about it.

Attitude > Behaviour (based on personality traits) > Character

If we can’t accept someone’s personality trait and we want them to change to fit into our own biased definition of how to live life, then we are stabbing our ownselves in the back. Usually, that means we are projecting ourselves on the person and comparing their flaws to our strengths. Surely, there are some others who hate us for being ourselves but who cares? At the end of the day, it is the opinions of the people who matter the most to us that will matter the most to us.

This is the everlasting truth: if we are truly living our higher, true and authentic self, we would allow others to be themselves also. If we are always wanting others to change and fit into our own little boxes, it’s a sign that we are living inside the box ourselves. How we see others says more about us than about others. Any free man would wish everyone was free so they could experience the kind of freedom he is experiencing. If a free man wishes that everyone else should be made captive and he only free, it’s a sign that his mind is captive.

Be who you are and say how you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.

Know who you are; your preferences, your style, your interests, your innate abilities; free from the impurities of this world, free from other people’s assumptions, free from your own misconceptions, free from the deep lies you choose to believe about yourself. For anyone who truly knows himself/herself is not perturbed with what others may misconceive about him/her.

So now the most ideal question is, who am I? Follow this link to understand more about who you are.

    I love you ❤

  • Making Great Decisions beyond the Predicaments of the Current Phase

    It has been said that in this life, it’s either you are going through a hard time, coming out of hard times or about to go through hard times. It’s an abysmal way of looking at life. We usually act as if we are either in good times or bad times when we are usually simultaneously in both. It may be going well financially but your marital life will be struggling. Home may be going well but your business may be struggling. It may be a wedding season but people are still dying and will need to be buried. What is my point? The phases of life are not one-dimensional. We all go through several phases at a time in different areas of the same life we are living. As such, I have written 3 things you need to remember no matter the phase you find yourself in;

    1. Don’t rush to leave any season. You will miss the one you are in right now.

No one is born financially independent, for instance. Then you reach a phase in your life where you can cater for yourself with little support. However, you will find children that are 100% dependent on their parents who “can’t wait to get rich”. You don’t even know what it means to be financially independent yet. Enjoy being taken care of while it lasts, for God’s sake.

Single women who can’t wait to marry? My dear, you are going to wish you were single. You better enjoy singlehood while it lasts. I don’t know but there is this hasty feeling of always wishing for a season we ought to be patiently waiting for. Whatever privilege you see that comes with a phase, also comes with a responsibility. If you can’t carry the responsibility yet, don’t wish for the privilege. But this is what we usually do; we compare the responsibilities of the current phase to the privileges of the next phases, forgetting that there are privileges in this current phase that will not exist in the next phase and responsibilities in the next phases that do not exist now. You can’t wait to have children of your own? Haha. You wait and see.

    2. Don’t make decisions based on current phases

In the delusion of social compatibility today, some go in for partners they think they are compatible with. However, you are making a decision that is meant to last the rest of your life based on a particular phase that can be gone. No wonder we hear people falling out of love as if love is a castle in the air. Their love was based on a particular phase of the person’s beauty or financial stance. To make great decisions, be visionary. See beyond the current phase. The Pinocchio you see today will turn out to be Prince Charming. You can only see that when you are a visionary. Don’t judge him based on his current phase. You are rubbishing an investment opportunity today because you are being myopic. You need to see the future.

As a young person, you see your entire future ahead of you. So many possibilities and opportunities. As you grow older to your 40s, you don’t know whether the decisions you made were the very best. Is your future behind you or still ahead? Because the possibilities begin to narrow down. This is the stage where a lot of people end up in a mid-life crisis. Why? Their imagination never really reached that far. As a youth, all they saw was the mountaintop. They never really imagined their lives beyond the other side of the mountain. If they had, it would have influenced some of the decisions they made along the way. You dated Kofi because he has a great smile but you obviously wouldn’t imagine being married to him in your 60s when the kids are all grown and are no longer home. You didn’t. It’s creepy, even.

Yet I tell you this for a fact; great people are intentional about their decisions because they see beyond the fog of delusion into the distant future of reality before reality hits. That is a true vision.

    3. Don’t take decisions to please people who may not be around to see the final phases

If you choose a career to please your father, your father will be gone but you will still have to bear the predicaments of that simple decision you made. Changing a career means starting from scratch, so you are more likely to be stuck with the “consequences” of a long-term decision that you just made. Whoever you are wanting to please may not actually be there to see the fruit of your decision, sadly. You married Araba because your mom likes Fante girls. Please don’t do that. Weighty decisions need weighty convictions. If the reason for making that choice is too light, it doesn’t make you firm enough to stand by the decision through the test of time.

So don’t even make a decision to please a friend. That friend may not be there in the next phase but the repercussions of that decision still live with you. Even worse, your friend can condemn a decision that they were commending in a previous phase. Do you want to quit your job because your friends say they don’t pay well? My friend, in the next 5 years your friends will be the same people hyping the same job for paying you well. Don’t take people too seriously. They just be saying anything. Stay true to those weighty convictions.

Well, that is enough wisdom for this week. Thank you so much for reading and sharing. I simply can’t thank you guys enough. Resonance is truly grateful.

  • Redefining Yourself in the Next Phase of your Life

We are an amalgamation of every phase of life we have ever been in; the good, the bad, the ugly and the beautiful. Every phase came together to produce the masterpiece you are, including the phases you hate so much and wished you never experienced. However, there are some people in some situations who wish they never went through a particular phase in their lives. If you are in such a situation, this write-up is for you.

Change is the only constant in life. These changes come in phases. Some girls grow up being teased for being ugly till they hit puberty. Now their haters are silenced. Others are bullied in high school but end up as a millionaire 10 years later. The tables turn. Seasons change. Phases come and go. In fact, a new phase is the closest thing to a reset button life offers us.

Friends; “Friendly” Reminders of Who We Used to Be

Friends you make in each phase are still stuck with the memories of you in that phase. Thus, although you may have changed and have been redefined, the version of you they still know is your past phase where you were very close to them. That’s how come you can be the president of a nation but your friends from high school still call you by your nickname. Since we are an amalgamation of every phase we have been in, they will still see in us a side of us they can still relate to. People don’t change much although we go through drastic changes. When I wrote Who Am I?, I explained that some core aspects of ourselves will barely change throughout our lifetime.

There are people who became friends with you simply because they met you several times a week. They may be workers near our vicinity or even a former roommate. A new phase brings a close to such relationships. New phases also tend to make us close to people we weren’t close to in a former phase. However, there are friends that will stick with you through several phases. They have seen different versions of you and still love you for who you are. You will be a fool to let such friends leave. Life gets lonely, especially in the adult phases. Finding a friend may be divine but keeping a friend is intentional. Don’t forget that.

Inasmuch as a new phase is like a reset button, there may still exist people, places and situations that may remind us of the old phases we are in desperate need to detach ourselves from. You cannot run away from your past but you can define your future. You need to remember that. Also, your past is still a major part of your beautiful story. Take that out and you’ve taken all the experiences and eye-opening situations and learnt lessons that come together to form that unique person you are.

Redefining Yourself is a Mindset thing

It’s easy to actually be addicted to reinventing yourself every time you move into another phase because you actually define yourself by the shames of the previous phase. Redefining Yourself is not about how others see you. Free yourself from that, for God’s sake. Define yourself for yourself. How people define you will not always favour you, no matter the phase. If you define how you see yourself, you redefine how others should see you.

Sometimes it’s the situation that has changed, not you. If you don’t change for a more mature and renewed mindset, you can “reset” the reset. This is what I mean. Marriage doesn’t change anybody. If you marry today, it does not mean you will be a responsible person automatically. Yes, circumstances change people but it’s usually at only the beginning. Sooner or later, you end up living life like you used to.

This explains why being rich is not about having money. Poor people get annoyed when wealthy people say being rich is a mindset. The truth is, being rich is easy. Maintaining the riches is the real deal. That’s something someone with a poverty mindset cannot do. It’s the same with every phase; getting the job is the easy part. Maintaining the job is the real deal. Getting married is the easy part. Staying married is the real deal. Buying a car is the easy part. Maintaining the car is the real deal. The attitude of a redefined person stems from their mindset, not their willpower or cheap talk.

You can’t go around dictating to people how they ought to relate to you. Do you want to actually redefine yourself? Change the perception you have about yourself. How you see yourself determines how you carry yourself. How you carry yourself determines how people relate to you.

    ….to be continued

  • Transitioning into a New Phase of Life

Life comes in phases till it’s time to face death. The phases of life come with different expectations, experiences and expertise. The phases are not necessarily the same for everyone. They don’t even have to be. They are triggered by circumstances like the loss of a close relative, caused by needless casualties like mistakenly getting pregnant or happen as a result of a particular stage you have entered into, like getting married.

There is absolutely one thing that a new phase brings us; perspective. You don’t judge people anymore for their actions because – though you do not condone their wrong actions – you understand why they took such an action. You do understand that life is brutal and not just cheap talk. Now you appreciate the little things. In transitioning, you realize other people’s journeys. Now you see your story in a new chapter.

Leaving the last phase makes you evaluate your life to see whether you made the most of it. You met some people you won’t meet again. Did you make the necessary impact? What will you be remembered for? What mark did you leave? Did you make the right choices that came with that phase? Did you make friends that you would move into the next phase? It is such evaluation that makes us make the most out of life. Things like purpose, relevance, survival and necessity become the priority of life.

There are very few needful things in life. All others are excess. The transition pushes our reality back to the necessities of life, a perspective that moulds our actions in the present phase we find ourselves. The power of a changed mindset, the presence of unforeseen circumstances, the unpredictability of life, the survival instincts of reality, the essence of living; a new perspective.

In your new phase, what have you realised about life while transitioning?

  • What the Bible says about Women: Understanding Biblical Context

What the Bible says about Women: Understanding Biblical Context

The entire Bible was directly written to three people groups; Jews (Israelites), Greeks and Romans. In order to understand the context, it’s important that we first know their culture concerning women.

    Phariseeism

    From Malachi to Matthew was 400 years. Within these 400 years, the religion called Judaism emerged. Judaism is not the working out of the Old Testament. Have you noticed that there are no Pharisees and scribes in the Old Testament? They were the ones who developed this religion within the 400-year period. Just like Buddhism, Confucianism, and even Christianity, the religion was created in the name of a person who wasn’t looking forward to creating a religion, this time in the person of Moses. There were 252 laws in the Old Testament (Law of Moses) but by the time Jesus was born, these guys had made it 613, including 100 laws against women. It includes the following;

    Jewish Culture

In the Jewish setting at the time of Paul, women were the legal property of the men they married. They were considered candid slaves without a voice. They were allowed little or no formal education. Boys were sent to learn their dad’s profession while the girls stayed home with their mothers. Women were forbidden to speak to men in public and were required to veil their faces when in public. Jesus broke this law with the Samaritan woman He spoke with.

Just then his disciples returned and were surprised to find him talking with a woman. But no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?”

    John 4:27 NIV

If she was caught unveiled, the man is required by law to file for divorce. A woman wasn’t allowed to eat at the same table as a man unless he was her husband. If the husband invited a guest, she was required to eat in a separate room. Marriage was betrothal; she was chosen to be married not the other way around, and there was little she could do about that.

    Whenever the writers of the Gospel wrote that Mary Magdalene was following Jesus, they were actually drawing the readers’ attention to the inclusive ministry of Christ. Women never followed the Pharisee’s congregation. They were not allowed by Judaic law to do so or even be part of the scribes. Religion was a men’s club. Jesus is indeed the friend of the anomalies;

In Galilee these women had followed him and cared for his needs. Many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem were also there.

    Mark 15:41 NIV

Polygamy was allowed for men so women usually shared their husbands with other women. Women weren’t allowed to vote. She even couldn’t be a witness in a court case because the scribes and Pharisees believed women were inherently liars. They weren’t allowed to read the Torah or even be taught the Torah (law of Moses). Jesus broke this law when He taught Mary.

…Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said.

    Luke 10:39b NIV

They basically weren’t supposed to do or be anywhere that involved more than one man. Thank God we’ve drastically grown past that as a generation. It will be therefore absurd on our side to go back to these things in the name of doctrine just because it’s written in the Bible. Ask yourself first, what’s the context of the content?

As already stated, the Bible was written to 3 people groups; Greeks, Romans and Jews, especially the epistles. I’ve already discussed the Jewish culture, and now I want to continue with that of the Greeks and Romans, so we understand why Paul said the things he said.

    Roman Culture

The books that were written to the Romans have no correction for women. No instructions were given by Paul to the Romans to restrict women from teaching or exercising authority. Why? In Roman culture, no one cared who was a woman and who wasn’t. Roman women could buy and sell properties.

Unlike Jewish women who couldn’t own anything; anything they “owned” belonged to the man. Legally, Roman women were the property of men but in a much more open way. Roman women could have businesses and make money for themselves and own jobs. So for Romans, there were no gender barriers and women weren’t trying to compete with men, unlike extreme feminism today.

Roman women also had the power to vote. Women weren’t an outcast in Roman settings, the poor were. No one cared if you were a woman or not; no stigma whatsoever against women in general.

    Greek Culture

    Acts 19:28 NKJV

The Greeks made gods out of women and placed women above men. You’d notice that the epistles where Paul gave instructions for correcting or restricting women were those written to the Greeks. For example, Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 11 that the man is the head of the woman (vs 3), women were created for men (vs 9) and women should cover their hair before praying (vs 13, 6). Why? Corinth was a Greek city with a Greek goddess as the main god of the city.

Paul writes in 1 Timothy 2 that women shouldn’t wear braids or expensive clothes (vs 9), not teach or exercise any authority over a man (vs 12) and must be silent. Why? Timothy was in Ephesus, a Greek city with a multi-breasted female goddess as the god of the city, the goddess of fertility, Artemis aka Diana. That also explains why Paul said women will be saved through childbirth (vs 15). He wasn’t referring to salvation.

The city clerk quieted the crowd and said: “Fellow Ephesians, doesn’t all the world know that the city of Ephesus is the guardian of the temple of the great Artemis and of her image, which fell from heaven?”

    Acts 19:35 NIV

It was the culture of Greek women to travel to Ephesus during pregnancy so that the goddess would save them from death during pregnancy. Greek women were afraid to become Christians and leave Diana’s covering, thus Paul said if a woman walks uprightly and loves God, they will be saved throughout the childbirth process (vs 15).

    In Greek mythology, women are more powerful than men. Their reasons/beliefs were; a woman was created before a man otherwise how could the second human being have been born? Their second reason/belief was that, because a man’s sex drive is typically higher than a woman’s, a woman always has something that a man wants but a man doesn’t always have something that a woman wants. Thus, Greeks usually put women in charge of everything because they believed that they were created first. That’s why Paul wrote this order to them;

But I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.
    1 Corinthians 11:3 NIV

Now that you have a summarised view of how the Bible setting looked like, take your Bible and search for all the verses that “undermine” women and see how enlightening it becomes. Especially, in the gospels, one would beautifully see how Jesus broke all the rules concerning women, one by one. Also, you can do further studies on the various cultures in various settings to further enrich your experience and understanding.

    I love you ❤

  • Submission & Feminism

    Submission & Feminism

Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Wives, submit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord.
    Ephesians 5:21‭-‬22 NIV

It is outrightly said in many cultures including ours, that the man is the head. As to whether the woman is the tail or the neck by default, it undoubtedly relies on our understanding of “headship”. The word “head” is used 75 times in the New Testament, but never in the sense of overpowering domination. It similarly means Origin or Source. All Paul was saying in 1 Cor 11:3 is that the origin of the woman (not women) is the man. “If you Greeks think the woman is superior to the man because she was created first, you got the “created first” part even wrong.”

Marriage is not ownership. It is a partnership. If the woman cannot sometimes lead for the man to support, then there’s no mutual submission. When God created a woman as a helpmate to man, He wasn’t creating a slave, subordinate, “lesser vessel”, or someone inferior to the man. The word “helpmate” is used 16 times in the Bible, 3 referring to woman and 13 referring to God. So wherein lies that proposition?

In such a Greek culture where women were generally idolized, it was important that Paul stresses on the importance of the woman submitting to the man. In our culture where our “foremothers” simply endured emotional, physical and mental abuse in marriage in the name of “submission” – which is just a nicer word for sublime slavery – and sacrificed for the man to the detriment of their goals; dreams; aspirations; basically their life, I don’t think “women, submit to your husbands” should be the emphasis.

It’s a shock that “wives, submit to your husbands” is such a famous verse and barely anybody took their time to notice the previous verse. “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” It is important to realise that a win-win situation is possible. If women empowerment is to the detriment of men rights, we’re tearing each other down instead of building each other up. It is also important for men to realise that feminism is not a threat to their authority. Fighting for women and fighting against men are two totally different things. It’s about time matriarchs were placed beside patriarchs.

    I love you ❤

  • Balance: The Essential Universal Principle that Holds Life Together

Art and science. Logic and emotions. Work and play. These words are not opposites but having the two creates a design principle of the universe: balance. This principle is not that everything should be balanced but that everything IS balanced. This is because balance is not a matter of choice or preference. Where there is no balance, there is destruction; a break in the cycle of resurgence where everything just swirls into depletion and nothingness. It is the basic ingredient of existence.

    Balance: Perfection’s Best Kept Secret

    Balance: Perfection’s Best Kept Secret

Perfection is a scary word for many, really. Use it three or four times in a sentence and someone will definitely give you a lecture of how things can’t be perfect. True! We are not powerful enough to control the balance of ups and downs, highs and lows or even foreknow if the good will outweigh the bad in any decision we make. The power to make things perfect is not even 5% in our hands. There will always be a margin of error.

However, perfection simply means complete. Have you seen how the earth revolves around the sun using the sun’s gravity? That’s perfect! If it were slightly lower by even an inch raised to the power of an inch, our earth will rotate slowly away into the “nothingness” of space. If it were slightly higher by the same margin, the earth will rotate slowly towards the sun until it was completely burned up by the sun’s harmful radiations. Do you see that balance?

That’s not the only example in nature. I could talk about reproduction and childbirth, atmospheric pressure, the human brain, the cycle of nitrogen, the food chain, and so on. The good part about all this is; we haven’t discovered a tenth of all there is to know about the universe. Yet, we see it clearly. A lot of what we call perfection is balance at work. Perfection can choose not to exist and we’ll be perfectly fine. The day balance leaves office, hell will break lose. Balance is literally what’s holding hell from breaking lose.

    Balance: the Shortcut to Consistency

    Balance: the Shortcut to Consistency

Life is so unpredictable, and all we feed our brains from social media is how inconsistent and messed up one thing or another is. It was only a matter of time until someone popularizes the idea that there’s no such thing as consistency. To be honest, consistency really sounds like a cool word for perfection. It would have been easy to sell the idea that it’s as unrealistic as perfection.

Guess what makes consistency possible? It’s not sheer will power or motivation or even knowledge. We all can know what to do and still watch ourselves not do it. We ride our consistency on the shoulders of motivation till it exhausts, then we’re more inconsistent than we were before. Consistency is more about holding something together, keeping it going like a cycle. You can’t force it.

Of course, there are no shortcuts to consistency. However, what makes consistency consistent in the long-term is balance. If you keep your hands up for like forever, it’s called punishment. If you keep your hands up for 2 minutes and bring it down for about 45 seconds so you could keep it up again for 2 minutes, it’s called exercise. Creating that balance is what makes you consistent. You don’t have to beat yourself up.

    balance

Work, but don’t kill yourself working. Rest, but don’t be lazy. Have some days off. Resurgence, remember? If you don’t balance exertion and rest, either of them is bound to destroy you. As aforementioned, where there is no balance there is destruction. Balance keeps you in a cycle to keep on keeping on.

So keep on keeping on, baby ❤️

  • Believe In Yourself Like No One Else In The World Would

We all know and have heard several times that we should believe in ourselves. The major reason we usually don’t is because we think we know ourselves too well. Some think success will crumble them. Others think it’s good to be lazy sometimes (then sometimes gradually turns into all the time), while some others think consistency will break them. We are our own worst enemy. No one limits us more than we limit ourselves. It’s amazing that of all the things we can choose to think of ourselves, we choose negativity shaped as truths and live by it.

John C. Maxwell once told a story about a school that performed an interesting experiment. They randomly picked a teacher from the teachers’ database and assigned the teacher to randomly picked freshmen, about 30 of them. They met separately with the teacher and said, “we chose you because you’re the best teacher in your field in the entire region. Therefore, we’ve assigned to you the very best students because you deserve the very best. Then they met with the students and said, “we chose you because you’re the best students in one of the best schools in the world. Therefore, we’ve assigned to you the best teacher in the entire region because you deserve nothing but the best.

At the end of the academic year, the selected students’ group performance was 30% higher than the rest of the freshmen. The teacher was really proud of the performance and applauded the students for being the best of the best. The students also were very proud of their achievements but weren’t surprised because they had the best teacher. The board came back and said to the teacher, “we have a confession to make. You actually aren’t the best teacher”.

The teacher somewhat understood and immediately accredited the extraordinary performance to the students. The board then said again, “We have another confession. Your students weren’t necessarily the best. They were randomly selected by a computerized system. Then the teacher asked, “if you randomly selected me and randomly selected the students, why did the students excel? The board concluded wisely, “because you thought they should and they thought they should”.

What happens when you have someone who believes the best about you? You raise the belief in yourself to a higher level. A level higher than yourself. The sky no more becomes the limit. The limit becomes the sky. So are you going to wait till you find someone who believes in you? Life is too short to give that power to someone else. The reason why people live mediocre lives is not because they aim high and miss; it’s that they aim low and hit. So you’d want to examine yourself and realize the standard you’ve set for yourself. If you raise it too high, you’ll always be too hard on yourself, stressed out and feel like an under-achiever. But for most of us, we’ve set it too low so that we don’t feel too bad about ourselves for not trying hard enough.

You need to constantly raise the bar a little in order to consistently grow in ways you never thought possible. It all begins with believing in ourselves. There’s a part of you within you that lies undiscovered because you refuse to jump off the cliff. You’re too sure about yourself, but the truth is you are too complex to understand everything about you. It takes more than a lifetime to know ourselves for sure, so don’t think negatively about yourself all your life based on one or two past circumstances. Your future drastically changes when you change your perception about your own self. Your thoughts will change. Even your thoughts will change and so will your choices and decisions.

Do you want to change? It starts with changing what and how you think about yourself. Believe in yourself. Anyone else’s belief in you is auxiliary. It doesn’t matter who believes in you if you don’t believe in yourself. God believes in you. The universe believes in you. What about you? Do you?

    I love you ❤️

  • What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger

What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Stronger

What you are will be tested.

Circumstances serve a very useful purpose. It comes to test what you are and what you’re made of.

Proverbs 24:10 says, “If you faint in the day of adversity, your strength is small”.

Circumstances come to test your strength not your weakness. Whether you become stronger or weaker depends on what you made of the circumstance.

Both the gold and the wood got burnt; the wood was drained but the gold was refined. The same boiling water that hardens the egg softens the yam.

Don’t wish it was easier, wish you were better.

    I love you ❤️

  • How Faith Works

    How Faith Works

“And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, “Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.”
    Luke 17:5-6

    Mulberry Tree
Notice in the verse above that Jesus didn’t say ask God to uproot the mulberry tree. Sometimes out of desperation, we pray to God to take “Goliath” away. But Jesus told us to speak to the mountain and to the tree, the obstacle. Speak! That is the believer’s authority. In the above verse, notice that the verbs (pulled up, planted) are in the past tense. It is called the passive imperative tense. It means speaking about something that will happen like it has already happened. Faith is not believing in what God will do. It is believing in what He has already done. So when you speak, speak as if it is done. Notice that it is also a command and not a request. “Be pulled up!” not “please go”. Command that sickness to leave. Command that burden to fall off. Command that yoke to be destroyed. Command that curse to be uprooted. Command it in Jesus’ name.“Do I have to say it once and fight my mind from doubting?”. Jesus said, “if you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say…”
The phrase “you can say” is the Greek word “lego” which is in the imperfect active imperative tense. This means it is a repeated action. It means as long as you don’t give up, it will come to pass. When God sends His Word, it doesn’t return to Him void. When you send His Word, it won’t return to you void. When you stop believing, it is like cancelling the Word you sent. Because Faith is the driving force of the Word. The Word is a Word of Faith. So I want you now you keep believing. And keep speaking. Speak words into the atmosphere. Speak words into the universe. And as long as you hold on to Faith, the Word will not return to you void.I love you ❤

  • Keeping Your Shit Together

    Keeping Your Shit Together

If you live in the past too long, you will be depressed. If you live in the future too long, you will be anxious. The only place you are designed to live is in the present, with your back towards your past and your face looking towards the future. Hope is imagining your future with God in it. Hope is one of the things – hope, faith and love – that will last forever, amazingly. That means God is so awesome that He expects us to look forward to His wondrous glory even in the times of the New Heaven and New Earth. He never ceases to amaze us.

Sinach’s single epitomizes God’s assurance of everlasting Hope (1 Cor 13:13)

That’s why I love Sinach’s song “He Did It Again”. There’s a line that goes, “and when I thought that He had done too much, Jesus did it again.” I have realised that the relevance of Hope is sadly missing. Over-ambition is not hope. Hope is confidence in patience. You can have faith and lack hope. In other words, you can totally believe in what God can do and still see hopelessness in your situation. You are not doubting God. You are just imagining a future without God in it. If a “makeup world” you have imagined is causing you distress, why don’t you just simply make up something good?

It is so easy to wallow in hopelessness. We just lie down and think of all the problems we have in the world just because we are starving and do not have enough money. One small mistake we make, make us think about all the stupid decisions we have ever made and how bad we are when it comes to such situations.

The more we wallow in hopelessness, the more we feel like the most miserable person in the world.

When we remember out of nowhere how someone misunderstood us; then we link to when we were misunderstood by another guy sometime back; then another link to a very similar experience 2 years ago; then we link it to 6 more examples at once; then we are like, “I’m the most misunderstood person in the world
    😩😩”.

All this happens under 5 minutes. It all started from one small not-even-a-big-deal problem. Then one seemingly harmless thought. Before you realise, you’ve had a bad day. This happens way too often. And today, we are leaving this attitude with all its accompanying emotions of hopelessness behind us. If my mind brings up a problem and another problem tries to connect to it, say “no! Not today.” We are learning to tackle one issue at a time, one step at a time.

If doctors were told how many patients they will attend to in even a day, hopelessness may set in. But they attend to all these patients one at a time wonderfully. If teachers made a big fuss about the number of papers they had to mark, no one would like to be a lecturer of a huge class.

You can never tackle all your problems at once so don’t think of all of them at once

Some moments are just not the right time to think about important issues. When you wake up at the wrong side of your bed, don’t think about the reason why you were born. It may seem like a good thing to do but it will filter towards you and leave you with negative emotions and hopelessness. Someone may then ask, when is the right time to think about your problems? When you have properly dealt with your anxiety about the problems.

Going over and over allll your problems will not help you, it will not heal you, it will not even get anything fixed. It is just a pity-party.

If you want to talk about your problems, make sure the person listening is a person with hope; someone who will make up for your hopelessness. Don’t also think you always need someone to talk to. Once you get attached to that thinking and no one is ready to listen, it will add insult to your injury. Know when to deal with your personal issues personally. Know when to invite a 3rd party. Either ways, God is willing to talk about it with you. Yes He already knows but He wants to hear you pour your heart out to Him. He is closer to the brokenhearted. Just like David the psalmist, we are looking within ourselves on this day and telling our soul, “Hope in God”. Remain hopeful and praise God, for He is your God and your Help. Amen

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise Him, My Help and My God.
    Psalm 42:11

    I love you ❤

  • Life: An Endless Paradox

We work harder, yet have low salaries

We travel further, yet have no communities

We have bigger houses yet smaller families

More knowledge yet we know less

    More experts, yet more problems

More pills and drugs, yet more people are sick

    More technology, yet less communication

    More quantity yet less quality

    Wealthy people, poor characters

So much in the window, yet nothing in the room

The more we know, the more we know that we don’t know more

The more we have, the more we feel dissatisfied

The more we focus on ourselves, the more selfish we become

The more we help others, the more we lack help

The more we search for things, the more we lose ourselves

Life is simple, yet life is a Paradox

Making things simpler is more difficult than making it complicated

Simple is complicated, and making things complicated is also simple

Emotions cannot be trusted, yet emotions tell us the greatest truths

Faith cannot be proven, yet faith gives us the bravest courage

Boldness is foolishness until it succeeds. If it doesn’t succeed, it remains foolishness

Not seeing miracles make us lack faith, and our lack of faith is what keeps us from seeing miracles

Fools think they’re wise, the proud think they are confident

Those who have the confidence lack the intelligence, and those who have the intelligence lack the confidence

Knowing too little keeps you in bondage, and knowing too much keeps you in bondage

Sleep too little and you’ll wake up tired, sleep too much and you’ll wake up tired

Expect nothing and you’ll never be disappointed. Expect greatness and you’ll one day receive it

The bigger the hope, the riskier the moment

The sweeter the love, the bigger the heartbreak

The ones that love you the most are the ones that can hurt you the most

Close yourself to bad things, and good things won’t also come in

Open yourself to good things, and some bad things will also come in

    Life is a Paradox
