Be Faithful – by Pastor Andy Obeng-Kwakye

I want to share with you a Word that from last week till now, keeps ringing in my spirit. Today is Sunday, so on Friday, I saw myself in a church. Specifically, I saw myself at Grace Mountain. I saw Pastor Elvis Agyemang seated. He was praying for people. When I got to him, he took a mic, gave it to me and told me to go and preach. After I took the mic, I didn’t even remember where I was standing in the church. I then told them that I was preaching on “Be Faithful”. As the message was going on, there was an awesome experience in the atmosphere. This is a message that God gave me Himself. I heard it so clearly: Be faithful in this season. Be faithful. Be faithful. Be faithful. It pays to be faithful. It pays to be faithful. It pays to be faithful.

So this morning, that is what I want to share with you. It’s straight from above, and I believe that in our walk with God as believers, we must hear and ask Him to help us to be faithful. We must bring out the fruit of being faithful as Christians. You know sometimes we say that we are human beings. With all our weaknesses, how can we be faithful? No! Sometimes we must ask God to help us to be faithful. We must intentionally seek faithfulness. If you want to handle greatness or enter the realm of greatness, you must be faithful. God will always reward you out of His mercy but I tell you that mostly, He qualifies you with the little that He saw that you’ve been faithful over, then He chooses you.

It is required of us, as servants of God, that we be faithful. God has handed over mysteries to us. Look at the mysteries we know in this dispensation. When you sleep; the dreams you have. Sometimes before you go somewhere, you have a conviction within you that you don’t understand. These are all mysteries that God gives to us. And the Lord is saying that as His children and servants, we ought to be faithful. We cannot walk with God without being faithful. Yes, we may have weaknesses, but it doesn’t excuse us from being faithful. God rewards faithfulness. It is important that as believers, in our walk with God, we remain faithful to what the Lord has entrusted to us.

In the Parable of the Talents, we see how faithfulness matters. A master travelled and gave his servants talents. One was given five, another two, and another one. No matter what God has given you, work with it. The one with five talents worked and doubled his, bringing five more. The master commended him, saying, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You were faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.”

The one with two talents also worked and gained two more. The master likewise said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You were faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” But the one with one talent, out of fear, buried his talent. When the master returned, he said, “Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown and gathering where you have not scattered seed. I was afraid and hid your talent in the ground. Look, here is what is yours.”

The master rebuked him, calling him a wicked and lazy servant. He took the talent from him and gave it to the one who had ten talents, saying, “To everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have an abundance. But from the one who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.” The servant with five talents could have been tempted to relax, thinking he had received much. Yet, he worked faithfully. The servant with two could have envied the one with five, but instead, he worked faithfully with what he had. If you want to have plenty; if you want God to entrust you with more, be Faithful.

Faithfulness is required in every aspect of life: in ministry, in marriage, at work, and in our relationships. It pays to be faithful. God looks at our faithfulness with what we are entrusted with. He rewards it with more responsibility, more blessings, and greater opportunities. So I encourage you today, whatever God has given you—whether it seems small or insignificant—work faithfully with it. You prepare for where you are going by being faithful where you are. You prepare for where God is taking you by being faithful to where you are today. Let us remain faithful in all we do, trusting that God sees and will reward us in His time.

“See, everyone can pray for power. Yes, you can pray and pray, and power will come. But you see, authority, you cannot pray to receive authority. Authority is given by God. When you are faithful, He will give you authority. That is why He said, I have given you authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions. He gives it to you. So when the servant was faithful over the five talents, He said, Now I have given you authority to be a seer over many things. If you want to have authority, if you want God to entrust you, pray, God, give me nations. God, give me a large crowd. God, give me a company. God, give me this. And God gives you two people to disciple. Look at the two disciples. Those two people will lead to more. It depends on how you disciple them—that will determine your next level.

You may ask why. When we were under the tent, I had to prepare for the congregation, no matter how small. You can ask my wife. Sometimes, I would even spend two hours in preparation and reflection. That is what God observes—how you handle small responsibilities. Tomorrow, when He gives you greater responsibilities, like a large crowd He gave Pastor Yonggi Cho, He knows you will not take it for granted. You will prepare in the same way you prepared before. How faithful will you be with what God has given you?

If you want to rise, yes, God’s mercy will let you rise. But God will look at your faithfulness and choose you by that grace. Friday, when we were praying at the leaders’ meeting, I told them about Apostle Arome. He used to come to KNUST campus. He met with small groups. People didn’t know him. By then, I think I had encountered him through a friend once. He would come and meet with small groups, unnoticed by many. Today, those small groups have grown.

There was a man who used to preach in prisons. He needed a keyboardist, so Apostle Joshua Selman would carry his keyboard and follow the preacher to prisons. While the man preached, he played. The preacher didn’t always give him anything, except perhaps a word of thanks. Sometimes, after the meeting, they would share some Coke or Fanta but he was faithful with that. If you can be faithful over prisoners—those who are physically bound—God will give you a large crowd of prisoners who are spiritually bound, so that you will preach and save them. Because you were faithful over physical prisoners, God entrusts you with spiritual prisoners.

Luke 10:19 says, Behold, I give you authority to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. He gives us authority. Be faithful when you are given a task at church. Be faithful. Prepare to serve. Even if it’s for ten minutes, it pays to be faithful. God rewards faithfulness. He does. He does. He does.

In marriage, be faithful. In ministry, be faithful. Sometimes I deal with many people. Sometimes, you realize a person you are speaking to is so vulnerable. It makes me understand why some pastors take advantage of members. I truly understand how some exploit others, and it is wrong. For example, I know a lady who had bought everything for her marriage. Let me show the extent to which they had gone; the venue was fully paid. The photographer had received half-payment and all. Yet, the man cancelled at the last minute. She was vulnerable and confused. It’s in such moments that some take advantage, but God calls us to be faithful, to never exploit others.

On Thursday, after the online prayers, a woman called me. She prayed for me and said, May God reward you. May God bless you for being faithful. You never took advantage of me. That was a confirmation of the message I was preparing: to be faithful. At your workplace, be faithful. They may not like you. They may hate you for one or two reasons, but be faithful in the work you are assigned. Faithfulness matters.

I am not saying you should stay in a place where they want to harm you. Pray and ask God. If He confirms you should leave, then leave. If you are in ministry or anywhere else where you feel oppressed, seek God’s direction. I am not saying you should stay in a harmful marriage and suffer abuse. Faithfulness does not mean accepting harm. Sometimes, faithfulness means saying no. Yes, sometimes saying no is the most faithful thing you can do. When you read the story of Joseph, the Bible says that day by day, Potiphar’s wife tempted him, but he said no. It wasn’t a one-time event. The temptation was persistent until the day she physically grabbed him. Faithfulness brings and creates rewards. God will always look at how faithful you have been with what He has given you.

In marriage, be faithful. Marriage will demand a lot from you, but it is worth the effort. I remember when I was in a relationship with my wife. As young as I was, I had to trust God to guide us. After school, even with limited resources, I chose to do the right thing. I didn’t want to fall into temptation. God honoured that decision. I wasn’t even financially stable, but within a short time, God provided a place to stay, furniture, and everything we needed for the wedding. God proved Himself faithful because I trusted Him and made the right decision.

Faithfulness in relationships, in ministry, in parenting—it all matters. Fathers, be faithful to your children. Don’t leave all the responsibility to the mother. There are things only you can teach and handle as a father. Be faithful to your children. It’s not that you have money today, they go to school; you don’t have money tomorrow so they are at home. They go to school as and when you have money, no! Sometimes, some fathers can go 2 months without seeing their children. It’s not the best.

Nobody comes out of nowhere. It is out of faithfulness that God chooses people. Look at David. He was faithful in taking care of his father’s sheep. That faithfulness prepared him for greater battles, like facing Goliath. In the bush, when a lion or a bear attacked the sheep, David fought them off. That faithfulness in the bush made God say, I have found a man after My own heart. God saw how David took care of sheep and trusted him to take care of a nation.

Faithfulness pays. God sees how you handle small tasks and rewards you accordingly. Be faithful. Be faithful. No faithfulness goes unrewarded. Sometimes, you may feel unnoticed or unappreciated, but God is watching. Continue to be faithful. Tomorrow, He will reward you greatly.

Let us rise and pray:
Lord, grant me the grace to remain faithful. In my ministry, my finances, my relationships, and my service to You help me to be faithful. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
